Webinar - Women's Clean Energy Wednesday: International Spotlight on Rwanda
Like much of Sub-Saharan Africa, the small, central African nation of Rwanda has limited access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy. Roughly half of all Rwandan households rely on candles, flashlights and harmful kerosene to light their homes and an even greater proportion depends on dirty and unsustainable firewood and charcoal for cooking. But Rwanda is tackling this challenge head-on. It has set a target to provide universal access to electricity by 2024 through a mixture of on and off-grid clean energy solutions and it is well on its way to achieving that target.
This inaugural Women's Clean Energy Wednesday webinar, co-hosted with the US Government's Power Africa initiative, is spotlighting Rwanda because there are few places in the world where the challenge of providing access to energy is as great, and where women play such a key leadership role in ensuring that these challenges are overcome. Women are at the helm of some of the most innovative companies and government institutions in charge of the country's energy development. Some of these female leaders will join us to discuss the essential role that women play in ensuring Rwanda's clean energy future and share lessons they've learned as pioneers in their field.
Clean Energy Education and Empowerment (C3E) International is a multilateral initiative under the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) & International Energy Agency (IEA) working towards greater gender diversity in clean energy professions, recognizing that the transition to a clean energy future will only succeed if we harness all possible talent.
